Sandy Esslemont (Chief Executive Officer)
Sandy Esslemont joined SensorTran in December 2009 as Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Mr. Esslemont has 28 years of international industry experience in petroleum technology, drilling operations, and general management. Sandy started his career as a petroleum engineer with Shell International and specialized in Drilling Engineering. His experience led him into drilling rig and turnkey management positions for Pride International before becoming a project manager in London with Baker Hughes Inteq. He joined Roxar, an international oilfield technology services company, in 1996 as general manager for the Middle East based in Dubai, served as Asia Pacific vice president based in Australia and Chief Operating Officer in Stavanger, Norway. He was appointed CEO of Roxar in 2001. During his tenure as CEO Mr Esslemont delisted the company from the Norwegian Stock exchange and successfully managed two private equity leveraged buyouts creating more than US$250 million of value for the shareholders prior to an eventual relisting of the company on the Norwegian Stock Exchange in 2007. In 2008 Mr Esslemont became the President, Western Hemisphere for Expro International, a UK Public listed Oilfield Services firm before leaving in 2009 to set up and manage his own private equity investment company. Mr Esslemont has a BSc (Hons) in mechanical engineering from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh.

Paul Ruiz (Chief Financial Officer)
Paul joined SensorTran in April 2008 as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Mr. Ruiz brings over 20 years of executive, financial, and operational experience to the Company, previously serving in the roles of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer for middle market and rapidly growing companies in a variety of industries, including high tech. Mr. Ruiz brings expertise in business strategy, organizational operations, manufacturing and logistics, private and public debt and equity transactions, mergers and acquisitions, international expansion and operations, management of hyper-growth, divestitures and restructuring activities, and business transformations. Most recently, Mr. Ruiz provided strategic, business advisory, and transaction structure and execution services to middle market clients as a consultant CFO, in affiliation with Bridgepoint Consulting, LLC. Paul began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers, leaving as an audit manager, where he provided audit and business advisory services to entrepreneurial, rapidly growing and Fortune 500 companies in a variety of industries. Mr. Ruiz graduated with highest honors from the University of Texas at Austin with a Bachelor of Business Administration and is a certified public accountant.

Mikko Jaaskelainen (Chief Technical Officer)
Mr. Jaaskelainen has been involved in fiber optic sensing activities for 13 years, including extensive experience in the Oil & Gas industry. Most recently, Mikko spent six years with Shell International Exploration and Production researching and developing innovative methods to sense downhole and reservoir properties for production optimization, with a primary focus on fiber optic sensors. Prior to Shell, he worked for Corning, Inc., where he led development activities for optical amplifiers and served as the internal subject matter expert for high power laser diodes and optical components. Previously, Mikko did system development of fiber optic seismic sensing systems at PGS Exploration/Optical Products, Inc. Mikko earned his Master of Science degree in Electric Engineering at Lund University in Lund, Sweden, and he earned a Master’s Certificate in Project Management at George Washington University in Washington D.C., USA. He has presented and published research in the fiber optics field extensively in the past 13 years.

Kent Kalar (Sr. VP, Corporate Business Development)
Kent joined SensorTran's Executive Team in 2004. From 1998 – 2003 Kent served as President and CEO of Extreme Devices, Inc., a semi-conductor fabrication company that produced wide-bandgap devices. While at Extreme Devices, Kent raised $35 million in venture capital. In 2003, he led the sale of a division of the company to a Fortune 500 acquirer. Before Extreme Devices, Kent was VP of Business Development at SPEC, where he was responsible for strategic planning, generating value from existing intellectual property, and commercializing SPEC’s technologies and products. Prior to joining SPEC, Kent spent eleven years at the 3M Company where he last oversaw a product lab responsible for developing 3M’s core multilayer flex circuit technologies. He led the team that introduced 3M’s first multilayer flex circuit products. Kent earned an MBA from the Carlson School of Business at the University of Minnesota and a B.S in Electrical Engineering from Kettering University (formerly General Motors Institute).

Paul Nicholls (EVP, Strategic Business Development)
Paul previously served as Executive Director of the U.K.-based Oxford BioSignals Limited (“OBS”). Paul joined OBS in 2003 to introduce and exploit the company’s advanced neural network based signal processing and interpretation technology within the industrial markets. From 2000 – 2003 Paul served as the Senior Key Account Manager of the U.K.-based Sensa, currently the dominant player in the DMS market. Appointed as Market Specialist to expand and develop the market beyond down-hole oil and gas into wider industrial markets, Paul is a pioneer in introducing DTS technology into worldwide markets and expanding the system’s applications. Paul has a wealth of experience in overseas market development including the establishment and management of foreign representatives, partners, and joint-ventures. He holds a BA in Mathematics and Mechanics, with a Diploma in Accountancy and a Higher TEC Certificate in Mechanical and Production Engineering. He has high technology awareness and holds four worldwide patents, three of which are for commercial DTS applications.

Jack Angel (VP, Business Development, Oil & Gas)
Jack joined SensorTran in April, 2008 as the Vice President of Business Development for the Oil & Gas market. Before joining SensorTran, Mr. Angel served as Vice President of Sales & Marketing at Sabeus, Inc. in Houston, Texas, where he had full operational and financial responsibility for all product lines. Prior to Sabeus, Jack spent 25 years at various Baker Hughes companies, including Baker Hughes Pipeline Management Group, QuantX Wellbore Instrumentation, Baker Oil Tools, Baker Hughes Inteq, and Baker Hughes, Inc. During those 25 years, Mr. Angel served in diverse leadership positions managing pipeline turnkey operations, global wellbore operations, marketing, business development, sales, and engineering. Jack earned an MBA from Texas A&M University and bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering Technology from Memorial University in Newfoundland, Canada.

Kim Heyworth
Prior to forming WHEB Ventures Kim ran the WHEB Partnership with Rob Wylie where together they helped over 20 clean technology companies in finding investment, routes to market and management. In 2000 they set up Ruston WHEB which focuses on senior level recruitment within the sector. An economist with an MA from Trinity College Dublin, Kim began his career in KPMG where he was for ten years a consultancy partner and global chairman of KPMG's Strategic Services and Environmental practices.

Timothy Cockshutt
Mr. Cockshutt’s responsibilities at Advantage Capital Parters include assessing investment opportunities, evaluating and structuring transactions and managing existing portfolio relationships in Texas, New York and Florida. He joined the firm in 1998 and serves on the boards of several Advantage Capital portfolio companies.

Mr. Cockshutt has 20 years of experience with institutional funds involved in venture capital, private equity, and microcap investing. Prior to joining Advantage Capital, he was a portfolio analyst at Meridian Advisors, Ltd., a private equity firm that managed three institutional partnerships.

Mr. Cockshutt earned a M.B.A. degree from Rice University. He also received a bachelor’s degree in geology from King’s College, University of London, and a bachelor’s degree in English and philosophy from Amherst College.

Diana Propper de Callejon
Diana is a General Partner at Expansion Capital Partners, a venture capital firm focused on investments in Cleantech. In addition to her Board role at SensorTran, Diana serves on the Board of Directors of Tiger Optics, an optical sensors company targeting the semiconductor and industrial gas industries; Orion Energy Systems, a provider of advanced energy solutions; and ConsumerPowerline, a leader in Demand Response.

Prior to Expansion Capital, Diana was the co-founder and Managing Director of EA Capital, a financial services firm that advised clients on new business and investment opportunities in resource efficiency and productivity. One of the first firms specialized in this area, EA Capital, established itself as a leading investment advisory firm focused on Clean Technology. At EA Capital, Diana developed venture funds and served as a business strategist and financial advisor on private equity transactions to diverse clients such as Bechtel, Texas Pacific Group, Duke Energy, the International Finance Corporation, Mr. Ted Turner, the National Renewable Energy Lab (NREL), and numerous emerging technology companies.

Diana holds a BA degree from Duke University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School.
