High temperature process vessels are subject to refractory wear, cracking and degradation as well as burner flame impingement events which can result in the loss of the outer shell containment. This has catastrophic health and safety consequences in addition to unplanned shutdowns. SensorTran’s high temperature industrial temperature monitoring systems provide a tailored solution based on their advanced, leading edge fiber optic Distributed Temperature Sensing (DTS) technology. A typical DTS monitoring implementation would consist of one or more DTS units connected to optical fiber(s) which are installed to the outer skin of the vessel. These solutions provide continuous, autonomous, online temperature monitoring of the entire surface of the vessel’s outer skin up to a maximum temperature of +700°C. They provide temperature data with fine resolution and high accuracy in real-time for up to 40,000 discrete measurement points along the optical fibers. A proprietary hot spot detection technique provides for the detection and monitoring of small and fast developing temperature excursions which can often lead to catastrophic failure. Applications include cryogenic product (LNG, LPG, ethylene, ammonia) and fuel oil such as: • Fired heaters, reactor vessels, and boilers • Gasifiers, reformers, crackers & cokers • Induction and vacuum furnaces • Incinerators & sulfur recovery units |
